A walk through Charleston’s latest bar
Well-known Charleston bartender Joey Goetz (formerly of the Belmont and Bar George) and two bartenders with Attaboy backgrounds, Brandon Bramhall and Zac Pease, opened downtown’s newest bar Last Saint on Sunday, September 5. It’s been a rush to see which locals can Instagram the cocktails the quickest — it’s definitely the latest see-and-be-seen spot.
Last Saint sits at 472 Meeting Street in a Charleston single house along a string of shops. Goetz says that the team wanted to keep the bar off King Street to give customers a bit of reprieve from raucous partiers regularly found filing into the Upper King establishments most nights.
Other bartenders joining the team include Hunter Lee (previously the Belmont), Lane Becker (previously Babas on Cannon), Mark Capotosto (previously Vintage and the Belmont), and Dominic Ignacio (previously Melfi’s).
The front room of Last Saint is a larger, more neighborhood-style spot, while the soon-to-be-open back room is a more intimate bar with six stools, reservations, and a booths with space for walk-ins.
Up front, there’s a tight cocktail menu with creative drinks, a coffee cocktail on tap, as well as a rotating frozen drink. In the second back space, the bartenders will chat with customers to figure out their tastes and build drinks from there.
Interior designer Megan Hill helped transform the Meeting Street address into a hip, yet laid-back establishment with vintage green bar, leather banquettes, and fun, retro details. Take a look around here if you haven’t been yet.
